“This is what the Lord requires of you,
only this, to act justly,
to love tenderly
and to walk humbly with your God.”
(Micah 6: 8, The Jerusalem Bible)
God still speaks to people by name,
those who can be still, pause a while
and know God who spoke the world
from the black cold of nothingness:

Let there be light, and there was light,
the light of a heart occupied with joy,
a heart understanding how to discern
between good and evil, giving attention

to the voice of God, not in a mighty wind
tearing the mountains, shattering the rocks,
not the voice in the fire, the lightning
that followed the earthquake,

but a thin silence, a still, small voice,
the kingdom of God among us.
