The Taliban have seized Afghanistan

In Haiti, an estimated 1,300 people have been killed in a magnitude 7.2 earthquake

Only about 50% of Americans are fully vaccinated against the Coronavirus, Delta variant

Deaths from COVID are more than 600 per day

The Dixie Wildfire ravages Northern California and Utah,

There is still music, poetry, dance, theatre, education . . .

So, for my grandson Andrew, who, beginning his sophomore year at college, has chosen to follow his heart and change his major to music, I pray with St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) that Andrew will be an instrument for peace, sowing love where there is hatred, faith where there is doubt, light against darkness, hope where there is despair, joy to counter sadness. It’s a lot to ask. I know Andrew can handle it, his music calling each of us out of our burrows of grief.
